Magnesium anode rods, also referred to simply as anode rods, are primarily composed of magnesium. When installed inside a water heater tank, these rods come into contact with water simultaneously with the tank itself, forming a galvanic cell based on electrochemical principles.
Since the water inside the tank is not pure, it contains various impurities and exhibits a certain degree of corrosivity. Additionally, when the water temperature exceeds 40℃, scale deposits will form. In the absence of magnesium anode rods, the water heater tank would be vulnerable to direct corrosion.
Magnesium anode rods play a crucial role in cathodic protection: they sacrificially corrode in place of the tank, effectively preventing tank corrosion and extending the service life of the water heater. Moreover, they also help to soften water, reducing the negative impact of hard water on the equipment.
